ATTORNEY KARP’s SUCCESS SPEAKS FOR ITSELF
This is just a small sample of successes at trial and after litigation that Attorney Karp has earned on behalf of his clients:
CRIMINAL DEFENSE
♦ MURDER – Middlesex Superior Court – Successfully defended client charged with 2 counts of First Degree Murder and 1 count of Home Invasion. After a 4 week, hotly contested trial, the jury found the client NOT GUILTY of ALL CHARGES.
♦ MURDER – Salem Superior Court – Successfully defended client charged with First Degree Murder. As a result of Attorney Karp’s cross-examination of the lead homicide detective during an evidentiary hearing which exposed serious deficiencies in the government’s case, the charge was REDUCED to Breaking & Entering, and the client was immediately released from custody after a plea.
♦ MURDER – Salem Superior Court- Successfully defended client charged with first degree murder. Client was found NOT GUILTY by reason of insanity.
♦ DOMESTIC VIOLENCE – Malden District Court – Successfully defended client charged with violating a restraining order issued on behalf of his ex-wife. Client was found NOT GUILTY after a jury trial.
♦ OUI/DWI/DUI – Brookline District Court – Successfully defended client charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol after she failed several field sobriety tests. Client was found NOT GUILTY after a jury trial.
♦ ASSAULT AND BATTERY BY MEANS OF A DANGEROUS WEAPON– Quincy District Court – Successfully a defended caretaker accused of seriously beating a person in her care. Client was found NOT GUILTY after a jury trial.
♦ HOME INVASION- Middlesex Superior Court – Successfully defended person charged with home invasion and beating the occupants. This offense carries a mandatory sentence of 20 years in prison. Client was found NOT GUILTY of Home Invasion, and guilty of only a misdemeanor after a jury trial.
♦ MANSLAUGHTER – Barnstable Superior Court – Successfully defended corporation charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of as police officer. Client was found NOT GUILTY of involuntary manslaughter and guilty of lesser offense of a misdemeanor after a jury trial.
♦ STALKING IN VIOLATION OF RESTRAINING ORDER – Dorchester District Court – Successfully defended client charged with stalking his former girlfriend after she obtained a restraining order against him. This felony carries a mandatory jail sentence. Client was found NOT GUILTY of stalking and guilty of lesser offense of a misdemeanor after a jury trial.
♦ MURDER – Middlesex Superior Court – Successfully defended client charged with 1st degree murder for stabbing his roommate 7 times, 4 times to the back. Client was found guilty of LESSER OFFENSE of manslaughter after a jury trial.
♦ MURDER – Salem Superior Court – Successfully defended client charged with murder. Client was found guilty of LESSER OFFENSE of manslaughter after lengthy jury trial.
♦ RECEIVING STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE – Concord District Court – Attorney Karp brought a Motion to Dismiss and urged the judge to dismiss the case for lack of evidence. The motion was granted and the case was DISMISSED.
♦ ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO RAPE – Cambridge District Court – Successfully persuaded prosecutor to dismiss the case. CASE DISMISSED.
♦ MAIL & WIRE FRAUD – United States District Court- Successfully represented client during pre-charge investigatory Grand Jury proceedings. NO CHARGES ISSUED against client.
♦ FIREARM LICENSE – Malden District Court- Successfully OBTAINED LICENSE TO CARRY FIREARM for client who was wrongly denied the renewal of the license by a local municipality.
FAMILY LAW
♦ CHILD CUSTODY – Essex Probate & Family Court – Successfully represented a father seeking a change in custody of his child from the mother. Father was GRANTED SOLE PHYSICAL CUSTODY and was allowed to move with the daughter to another state.
♦ CHILD REMOVAL / VISITATION – Norfolk Probate & Family Court – Successfully opposed Father’s attempt to conduct visitation outside the United States. Motion for visitation DENIED.
♦ CHILD CUSTODY – New Hampshire Supreme Court / Rockingham Superior Court – Successfully persuaded New Hampshire Supreme Court to DISMISS CONTEMPT ACTION against Mother fighting unsupervised visitation of her children by abusive father.
♦ CHILD CUSTODY – Middlesex Probate & Family Court – Successfully obtained SOLE PHYSICAL CUSTODY of children on behalf of FATHER.
♦ ALIMONY – Middlesex Probate & Family Court – Successfully defended client against claim for alimony in divorce proceeding. NO ALIMONY ORDERED.
♦ ALIMONY – Middlesex Probate & Family Court – Successfully represented former spouse seeking alimony in post divorce proceedings. ALIMONY ORDERED.
♦ ALIMONY & PROPERTY DISTRIBUTION- Middlesex Probate & Family Court – Successfully represented spouse seeking alimony and the marital home in divorce action. ALIMONY & MARITAL HOME ORDERED TO WIFE.
REAL ESTATE LITIGATION
♦ Successfully defended clients that were being sued for “specific performance” of a real estate purchase and sale agreement for the sale of their home. Terms of the sale were renegotiated to the clients’ favor.
♦ LAND COURT- Represented land owners involved in litigation regarding use of easements and adverse possession claims.
♦ SUFFOLK SUPERIOR COURT – Represented condominium association and secured a lien against unit and unit owner for unpaid condominium fees and special assessment
